Southbound Food Festival is proud to announce that The Blind Boys of Alabama, one of the most celebrated gospel groups in American music history, will headline Funk Brunch: Gospel Bird presented by Kroger Delivery, on Sunday, September 28 at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark in Birmingham.

This joy-filled Sunday finale honors the rich Southern tradition of communal feasts centered around “gospel bird”—a cultural nod to fried chicken’s legacy in Sunday soul food. Expect unforgettable flavors, vibrant spirit, and soul-lifting sound as The Blind Boys bring their legendary gospel harmonies to this soulful, food-filled celebration.

With a career spanning over 80 years, The Blind Boys of Alabama have earned five GRAMMY Awards, a GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award, and praise for their collaborations with artists ranging from Stevie Wonder to Peter Gabriel. The group’s contributions have reshaped gospel and American roots music alike.

Funk Brunch will feature a lineup of top Southern chefs putting their spin on the “gospel bird”—from golden-fried to slow-smothered and spice-rubbed—paired with craft cocktails from some of Birmingham’s top mixologists.
