Restaurant Review: Bright, Appealing KrazyFish Grille in Port St. Joe, FL

Krazy Fish Grille is Mark Haddock’s coastal casual dining resturant specializing in fresh ingredients and homemade sauces in Port Saint Joe, Florida. The venue is a completely renovated old Chevron gas station. They take pride in using locally sourced ingredients and making the menu items fresh daily.

KrazyFish Grille, has its quirky charms. The small space sits across the street from the beautiful Saint Joseph Bay. Around the room you will find patron bottles chandeliers used for lighting, bright colors creating a carefree atmosphere, and beach decor covering the walls. There are also a few tv’s scattered about, and a full bar that serves festive pastel-colored drinks ( I recommend the Pineapple Orange Margarita).

The menus here are printed on a double page and decorated in cheerful seaside colors. A variety of refreshing appetizers are available like the Coconut Shrimp served with grilled pineapple habanero chutney dipping sauce and delicious lump Maryland style crab cakes.

There are several entree creations to choose from, the majority of them feature seafood and fresh sides. I dutifully ordered this decorative, Instagram-friendly creation of fresh Grouper and “Mark’s Surfin’ Slaw,” although I soon pushed it aside to concentrate on Alaskan Snow Crab served with a side of warm signature roasted garlic compound butter.

In accordance with the seaside theme at KrazyFish, one of the most popular entrees at our table were the KrazyFish Taco’s with your choice of Mahi, Tequila Shrimp, or Blackened Grouper. We chose the shrimp in tortillas filled with avocado, Monterey jack cheese, pico, cabbage, chipotle lime crème,  and complemented them with side dishes of  island rice and “Mark’s Surfin’ Slaw.” Some of the other entrées my tasters and I sampled were “Hand Cut” charbroiled steak with grilled shrimp, tomato florentine soup, and smoked gouda grits.

KrazyFish also serves pressed and deli-style sandwiches Wednesday-Saturday and a commendable sushi bar on Thursdays and Fridays. In warmer weather you can dine outside in the shade on their pet friendly patio. The desserts (wedges of crumbly caramel peanut butter pie and fresh key lime pie) trend toward the comfort side. If you feel like finishing your meal with the kind of classic, flavor-bomb flourish that Mark and his team are known for, however, call for the Ultimate Chocolate Cake.
