Could you tell us a little bit about how your career started in country music?
I’ve been singing ever since I was seven, learned I was related to the legend that is Pocahontas, & performed tribute to her at my elementary school’s talent show. I got started and found my voice in country music when I was 12. It was then I learned how to write songs and play guitar. I was drawn to country music because of my roots in Texas and the music I listened to on the radio.
When you were growing up who would you say were your musical influence(s)?
Growing up, I used to go on long drives with my mother for competitive cheer competitions and I remember falling asleep in the car to the sounds of Shania Twain, John Mayer, and Kenny Chesney. So, those would probably be the ones that have stuck with me the most throughout this journey.
What is your favorite part of the songwriting process?
I love the moment when you figure out exactly what fits in the next line of a song, whether it be the right rhyme, emotion, or word, it just clicks.
What are some of your biggest challenges as a solo artist?
Well, being solo, independent, and female definitely isn’t the most favorable combination in this business, but persistence is key. A lot of doors get slammed in your face for trivial things that you can’t really change, but that doesn’t mean that the right person to help you isn’t out there.
What, would you say, have been the constant goals you’ve tried to accomplish with your work?
I want to write songs that make people feel again, whether it be the flittering anxiety of a new relationship or the emptiness of knowing that you’ve lost someone forever, I want to be the voice that helps put those feelings into words.
With your new song “Single on Valentines Day,†what was the story with this song and where did you find your inspiration?
I wrote this song a few years back with some writers in South Florida. I originally brought this title in wanting to put an ironic twist on the sadness typically associated with being alone. So we made it about being happy, single, and rubbing it in the guy’s face that he’s single on valentine’s day and won’t get to ruin anyone else’s day.
Are you going to be releasing a full album soon?
Yes! I have recorded a lot of tracks (around 16) for the next album and we are waiting to get everything in order before we release it.
You have shared the stage with a lot of big names. If you could pick one artist to perform a duet with or collaborate with on a single who would you choose?
Wow, that’s tough. I recently played a show with Drake White and if I ever got a chance to record a song with him, that would be amazing.
Do you have plans to tour in 2017?
Yes, we’re constantly planning shows throughout the year all over the place! Make sure you check my website www.liddyclark.com for details :)
Could you tell us where you see yourself in the next 5 years?
Hopefully by then I will have graduated from college (fight on!) and be on a tour playing for all of my fans nationally!
