Country Radio SeminarÂ and theÂ Country Music AssociationÂ are pleased to announce that writer/producer,Â Dayton DuncanÂ of theÂ new eight-part, 16-hourÂ COUNTRY MUSICÂ documentary that will premiere on PBS this fall, will appear as part ofÂ Country Radio Seminarâ€™s 50th AnniversaryÂ (CRS 2019)Â keynote event.Â Â Ken Burns, who directed and co-produced the film withlong-time collaborators Duncan andÂ Julie Dunfey,Â will appear via a taped intro piece, followed by Duncan discussing the film.Â The keynote event, set forÂ Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 4 p.m., will offer attendees an exclusive first look at clips with rare footage and interviews conducted over the six years it took to produce the film. Country Radio Seminar Board President,Â Kurt JohnsonÂ will conclude the panel with an overview of how radio can get involved with this landmark event.
The film chronicles the highs and lows of Country musicâ€™s early days, from southern Appalachiaâ€™s songs of struggle, heartbreak, and faith to the rollicking Western swing of Texas, Californiaâ€™s honky-tonks and Nashvilleâ€™sÂ â€œGrand Ole Opry.â€ The film follows the evolution of Country music throughout the 20th century as it eventually emerges to become â€œAmericaâ€™s music.â€
COUNTRY MUSIC, explores crucial questions, â€œWhatÂ isÂ Country music?â€ and â€œWhere did it come from?â€ while focusing on the biographies of the fascinating trailblazers who created and shaped it â€” from theÂ Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers, Bill MonroeÂ andÂ Bob WillsÂ toÂ Hank Williams,Â Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, Charley Pride, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Garth BrooksÂ and many more â€” as well as the times in which they lived. Much like the music itself,Â the film tells unforgettable stories of hardships and joys shared by everyday people.Â More than 100 interviews were conducted in conjunction with this project.
