10 Questions with the Talented Songstress Alyssa Bonagura

Alyssa Bonagura is tearing up the country airwaves with her hit song, “Road Less Traveled.” We caught up with country music singer to ask about her new record, favorite Nashville spots to eat, and what she does when she’s not on the road.

Good Afternoon Alyssa! Thank you so much for talking with us again! We loved your British Mulled Wine recipe you shared with us at Christmas, we just couldn’t wait to find out more about you! What was a typical dinner or family meal like for you growing up on the open roads of America?

Whatever catering made the night of the show!

Was music always a part of family gatherings or dinners?

Absolutely. Music is everything that we are, so it’s just second nature to sing whenever we’re having a good time with friends.

Give us an example of a cooking music playlist you would put together.

I love cooking to this CD that my cousin gave me called “Women of Latin America” – it’s amazing! I also love putting on any songs by Antonio Carlos Jobim in the kitchen.

If you could pick one food to eat every day for the rest of your life, what would that be?

If you designed your own walking food tour of Nashville, which restaurants/food sellers would be on your list of places to visit?

For coffee & breakfast : Dozen Bakery and Crema Coffee
For lunch: Juice Bar or Sam & Zoe’s
For dinner : Yellow Porch, Rolf & Daughters, City House, or Bar Taco!

What’s one memorable meal you’ve had during your travels? Is there anywhere that you haven’t been that you are dying to go?

One of my most memorable meals was last summer with my friend Ruby and her dad Rod Stewart and step mom Penny. We went to the Savoy Hotel in London to have dinner and the entire evening was just so much fun. The food was incredible and so was the wine and the company. We laughed all night. Such a great atmosphere in that hotel!

Aside from your passion for food and music, what’s the one thing that really keeps you ticking?

My family and my friends! I don’t know what I would do without them.

@alyssabonagura Love having beautiful dinners with beautiful friends! @eleonoredenig @rubystewart #dinnerparty

We LOVE “Road Less Traveled.” Where do you get inspiration to write your songs and what do you want fans to know most about you and your music?

Thank you!! I am always writing about my life and what I’m going through in hopes to connect with someone out there who is going through the same thing. Music has always been my medicine.

Let’s talk about your solo Opry debut at The Ryman on December 23rd. What was that like for you?

Omg. The best night of my life!! To be able to stand on that stage and sing your own songs for a packed Ryman Auditorium is something I feel every artist dreams about. So while it was happening, I kept asking myself if it was all a dream. The band was so much fun to play with, and I was trying really hard not to cry the entire night! When that spotlight hits your face for the first time on the Opry stage it’s like a real time movie. I’m so grateful I got asked to play.

Finally for Battered and Brewed, If you could have a drink with one person, who would it be and what would you have?

I’d love to have a glass of wine with Joni Mitchell and just talk to her about anything. She’s my idol. That would be a dream come true.

Thank you Alyssa, we wish you continued success and look forward to what you have for us in 2017.

About Alyssa Bonagura:

One listen and it becomes crystal clear that Alyssa Bonagura was born to make music. With a voice that touches you somewhere deep inside, the soulful singer-songwriter produces powerful lyrics that will send you jet-setting into a broad range of human emotions. This daughter of country music (her parents being RCA country recording artists, Baillie & The Boys) received a full scholarship from Sennheiser after high school to attend Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts (LIPA) where she earned a degree in Sound Technology while continuing to perform in local venues throughout Europe. After graduating from LIPA and receiving her diploma from Paul McCartney himself, Alyssa returned to Nashville where she has evolved into a songwriting seamstress for several artists including Steven Tyler (“I Make My Own Sunshine”), Jessie James Decker (“Lights Down Low”) and Jana Kramer (“Circles”). Now, with musical influences from Sheryl Crow and Joni Mitchell, this six-stringed songstress has released Road Less Traveled, an album that showcases Alyssa as a solo artist in her truest form to date and shares the journey of finding her own voice while paving her own path as an independent country artist.
